BSAC School Diver Grades in the South East Asia Liveaboards Program
The BSAC School Diver Grades have been developed to fit closely the needs of the diver who prefers to go to a school for initial training and it is designed to build confidence and self-reliance, whilst keeping safety uppermost.
1) Experience Scuba
To give people the opportunity to experience scuba diving and to assess whether it is a sport they wish to take more seriously, by enrolling on the BSAC Ocean Diver Course.
2) Ocean Diver
This course provides you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to start open water diving. Learning to dive is all about learning to use your equipment properly and safely. The course starts with practice in a swimming pool or in sheltered water and continues to include five open water training dives where open water skills and techniques are further developed and experience gained. The course material includes the excellent BSAC manuals together with a supporting video cassette.
The Ocean Diver is qualified to dive with other Ocean Divers or those of higher grades.
3) Sports Diver
In Sports Diver training, the emphasis is on building a sound foundation of open water diving skills and experience through a series of structured practical lessons. Once you have gained this open water experience with a qualified instructor, you are ready to take part in dives with other Sports Divers or those of higher grades.
4) Dive Leader
Dive Leader training concentrates on the responsibilities and safety aspects of leading other divers on an open water dive. Practical lessons in rescue management and rescue skills will give you the confidence and ability to deal with those unforeseen emergencies. Leading a dive will develop your enjoyment, confidence and experience as a diver.
5) Advanced Diver
This course further develops your knowledge and skills. You will gain experience in planning and organizing dives at different sites and under different circumstances. Additional experience will be gained in using small boats, chart work. navigation and many other related skills. The BSAC consider this grade as being a fully trained diver.
BSAC Skill Development Courses (BSAC SDC) in the South East Asia Liveaboards Program
All BSAC Skill Development Courses count towards the Advanced Diver level.
1) Dive Planning and Marshalling
An opportunity to understand the responsibilities of planning and organizing a dive. The course covers how to record dive information and planning for diving emergencies.
2) Search and Recovery Techniques
Learn how to locate and record an underwater feature or wreck. The course also gives practical experience of underwater lifting techniques and the use of buoyancy.
3) Advanced Diving Techniques
Teaches the preparation and use of a variety of shot lines, distance lines and delayed Surface Marker Buoys, along with sections on wreck orientation, alternative air sources and other personal diving equipment. A second day puts these skills to practical use.
4) Boat Handling
Designed to give you an insight into the safe handling of small boats. Seamanship, tides and the weather. Boat handling is one of the most popular courses for divers.
5) Chart work and Position Fixing
This course provides an introduction to the art of marine chart work and tidal predictions. Ideal for those looking for wrecks or new dive sites.
6) Oxygen Administration
The value of oxygen in the first aid treatment of decompression sickness is well established. An A to Z course on equipment and techniques.
7) Practical Rescue Management
Covering resource management in rescue situations this course teaches students to make best effective use of available resources. It also provides an opportunity to further enhance personal rescue skills.
8) First Aid for Divers
Full of useful information on how to apply first aid when dealing with diving related injuries. First Aid for Divers covers the emergency actions needed to preserve life.
